Dates with my Daughters: February

February was a month of firsts and a month of challenges.

First cinema trip (Penguins of Madagascar - brilliant!) and first shoes.

Photographs in the cinema and the challenge of very little light and without annoying the half term cinema goers. Photographs in the shoe shop... Tricky when it transpires that your daughter doesn't like wearing shoes. At all.

But here we are. Dates with my Daughters.

Lowen is One!

Our sweet baby girl turned one yesterday... I can barely find the words to describe how much happiness and joy she has brought into our lives this past year, or explain where that year has gone. She lives up to the meaning of her name, and is just such fun to be around.

So to celebrate, I took her to my favourite window.

I'd taken my own maternity photographs in front of this window last year and spent a lot of time here while on maternity leave so it seemed the only place to go... I am hugely grateful to the lovely Beryl for allowing me to take a bunch of helium filled balloons into an English Heritage property and trusting me not to lose them to the incredibly high ceilings...

The weather outside kept changing its mind and the light kept changing dramatically through these huge old windows, and it really was freezing cold, so we had to work fast. Lowen wore the most gorgeous romper from the Little Green Radicals which inspired my balloon colours!

Here are some highlights...

Late Winter Maternity Shoot

Del and I have known each other for a little over three years. We met when we were both well-rounded, heavily pregnant first-time-mums-to-be, in a church hall in Leicestershire, trying to get clued-up at our NCT antenatal course.

I knew from the minute she introduced herself we'd end up being great friends, and our daughters, born just five days apart, adore each other too. You can imagine my excitement not only when she announced she was expecting again, but that she wanted me to take her maternity photos.

So off we went (waddled) on a fresh (read freezing cold and very windy) Sunday morning last month to Foxton Locks. Despite the temperature and the wind, we were treated to late-winter sunshine and stunning views across the countryside.

Del wore what she said was most comfortable, but her white and blue stripes set off with chunky red beads really popped against the neutral colours of rural winter... And that bump? Well, Del really suits it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must pack up my kit as shortly I'm off to meet the baby from behind that bump!

Enjoy!

Getting it right

So it's no real secret that I fell into Hannah Hall Photography last year, somewhat by accident. The truth is now that I'm here, I wouldn't have it any other way and I'm so excited about the future... But I've definitely gone the backwards way about finding my feet and getting business ready.

Recently I've been focusing on finding my style on paper; establishing a colour scheme and some branding and starting to create stationary that matches. I love my mini business cards, but my current design uses too many colours, so I'm awaiting delivery of a new design.

Taking inspiration from my favourite recycled wool picnic blanket that you might have seen in some of my photographs, I've been working closely with Harriet at Kissing Otters to create something beautiful... Next to overhaul the blog!

It's all about purples, fawns and greys... I'd love to know what you think! And if you're looking for a wedding photographer, please get in touch so I can send you your very own copy!

Dates with my Daughters: January

As 2014 drew to a close, I sat and I pondered a photography project for the new year. I didn't want to do a 365 as it was too much pressure, but any less pictures without a theme to underpin it felt like a bit of a cop-out.

Then, I stumbled across an article on Clickin' Moms about a project by Jennifer Bogle where she had photographed dates with her kids and the idea really spoke to me: Being creative with my photography, while taking pictures of my favourite models and setting aside just a little bit of guaranteed time with both of my daughters on their own each month... What a winning combo.

So here are January's offerings.

Cookies before a Sunday afternoon walk to Effy, my eldest, and an impromptu play picnic with Lowen, my tiddler (after illness got in the way of the original date plans, note her sister causing chaos around us!).

Amy & Nick's seaside wedding

Amy and I have known each other for a long time but I couldn't really tell you how. Anyway, I was absolutely honoured when her and Nick asked me to capture their big day. Amy's 50's vision came together beautifully; her custom made dress by Nova Clarke, her gents in tweed, layers of underskirts all topped off with a fabulous reception at Morgan's Vintage Dancehall on Margate Seafront.

Amy is a cake maker by trade and made her own cake and the couple who hate having their photograph taken were complete naturals, even delaying their speeches and cake cutting to head back to the beach at sunset... And it was completely worth it! I struggled to choose a few images from this wedding, so here's loads!

Thank you Mr and Mrs Johnson for letting me be a part of your day, I enjoyed every second!

Don't forget you can visit me here.

The Barclays

When I imagine my house three weeks after my first child was born, I can think of several words to describe it... Immaculate was not one of them. However, when I visited The Barclays to meet Baby Troy last week, not only was I stunned at how cute he was, and how fabulous his parents looked, I was speechless at their stunning home, which truly was immaculate and made this natural, lifestyle shoot so effortless.

Troy was such a poppet, and it was a huge delight to capture his early days.
